Do you know a truly inspirational woman or young girl who devotes her time and energy supporting people in their Trafford community?

If the answer is yes, then leading Labour politician, Cllr Joanne Harding, wants to hear from you.

Cllr Harding is once again marking International Women’s Day (IWD), on Saturday 8 March from 14:00 at Flixton Girls School.

The popular event highlights the fantastic work undertaken by the borough’s unsung heroines who do amazing things within their communities.

“I just love hosting this event,” said Cllr Harding.

“It is fitting that we recognise the important role Trafford women and young girls play within society because we have some amazing people doing extraordinary things.

“I make it my mission every year to champion those doing selfless acts of kindness – and to recognise and award them for their efforts – and to thank them for everything they do.”

The nomination categories for IWD include:

Young Woman of the Year Award (16-25 years)

Volunteer of the Year Award

Woman in Business Award

Health and Care Award

Women’s Group Award

Inspirational Woman, Kate Rackham Award

This year’s celebrations will be dedicated to the much-loved Kate Rackman, who sadly passed away last year after losing her battle against breast cancer.

Cllr Harding added: “Kate was presented with the Inspirational Woman Award last year because she was a formidable and fierce advocate for women living with secondary breast cancer.

“This award has been dedicated to Kate and to her memory – and it will also serve as a reminder of how much of a truly wonderful person she was.”

During the event, Cllr Harding, will be collecting donations for the charity Kate co-founded, the  Fighting to be Heard Foundation set up to provide a voice for the 55k patients living with secondary breast cancer in the UK.

In addition, there will be live music and inspirational guest speakers plus training on being an ‘Active Bystander’ which provides skills for women and girls around personal safety.
