Bold and decisive plans to deliver Trafford’s first fully social rent development in more than a decade has been hailed a huge success by the borough’s Labour leader, Cllr Andrew Western.

The state-of-the-art development, which relies solely on electricity for power, consists of 30 triple glazed apartments, 20 one-bedroom homes and 10 two-bedroom homes all available at social rent levels.

The echo-friendly scheme, delivered in conjunction with Trafford Housing Trust, will provide quality homes with lower than average bills for all its tenants.

The scheme, which officially opened today (Wednesday), is located at Carrfield Avenue, Timperley, with all the properties now fully tenanted.

The development was paid for through the authority’s Affordable Homes Fund.

Council leader, Cllr Western, said: “This is an extraordinary achievement and one I am extremely proud of.

“Being a part of a scheme that delivered the borough’s first socially rented homes in Trafford for more than 10 years is astonishing – and I congratulate everyone involved.”

Cllr James Wright, Executive Member for Housing and Regeneration, also lavished praise on the development.

“One of Labour’s key priorities has been to deliver quality affordable social homes within the borough – and this development is just the start,” said Cllr Wright.

“We remain committed to tackling the housing crises and will ensure developers also play their part.

“This scheme has been an outstanding success – and I would also like to praise all those involved.”

Last year, Cllr Wright commissioned a review and an update of the council’s Affordable Housing Fund with the vision of boosting the number of social rented homes across Trafford.

The fund, set up by the Labour administration in 2018 in a bid to address the lack of affordable homes, means the cash can now also be used by housing associations to help contribute to the provision of affordable homes.
