Streford and Humphrey Park Labour ward councillors have welcomed the new permanent Post Office located at Stretford Mall that opens daily.

Previously, the branch was housed inside the Arndale Centre’s WHSmith store until its temporary closure in June.

Meanwhile, since July, Postmaster Arif Matadar operated a temporary Post Office until work on a newly redeveloped store was completed.

The Post Office is now open and offers a wide range of products and services such as a range of travel money, passport check and send, vehicle tax, travel insurance, driving licence renewal, gas and electric top-up and ID verification.

Ward Cllr Tom Ross, Leader of Trafford Council, said: “On behalf of all businesses and residents in Stretford, I am delighted that the Post Office has opened a new branch in the town centre.

“It is of major importance to the community by offering a range of services under one roof – and we could not be without it.

“Mr Matadar did a fantastic job serving our residents in the temporary branch as work continued to develop the mall, but it’s great to have a bigger facility in such a great space.”

Ward Cllr Stephen Adshead, Executive Member for Highways, Environmental and Traded Services, also praised the new development.

“The residents and businesses are delighted to have a Post Office in Stretford again – and the shop does look great,” said Cllr Adshead.

“The larger premises now allow for a wide-range of services to be available.  It’s also open daily, which is another bonus.”

“A huge thank you to everyone involved in reinstating the Post Office so quickly and without disruption.”

Ward Cllr Jane Slater, Executive Member for Health and Care, also welcomed the new facility.

“I want to thank the Post Office for its hard work in providing a much-needed service in Stretford. “It is a lifeline for so many people who rely on it to pay bills and have access to products and services,” said Cllr Slater.

“This is great news for all our residents and visitors.”
