Lostock and Barton Labour councillors have welcomed a cash boost of £17,000 to create wild areas rich in biodiversity in this much-loved local green space.

Ward councillors Jill Axford, Mike Cordingley and Shirley Procter have expressed their delight that Lostock Park is to benefit from the funding.

Visitors to the area will be treated to a wide range of diverse planting that will enrich the space including spring bulbs, trees, a meadow, raised flower beds and so much more.

The aim is to increase biodiversity and cultivate a natural climate that will attract birds, insects, butterflies, and bees.

The scheme aligns with Trafford Labour’s pledge to make the borough cleaner and greener for everyone who lives, works and visits the borough.

The councillors expressed their appreciation for the funding and thanked everyone involved for bringing together yet another wonderful eco-friendly project.

They said: “Giving our much-loved parks a boost by way of extra planting and cultivating green areas is a must if we want to improve the borough’s green credentials.

“We absolutely welcome and look forward to seeing this project grow – it will be fantastic for residents and visitors who will no doubt be watching it flourish for many years to come.”

As part of the project, training courses in Wildflower Meadow Management and Woodland Management will be provided to residents and friends groups, fostering knowledge and stewardship of these natural spaces.

The funding is part of the Greater Manchester Green Spaces Fund and the project will be carried out in partnership with The Conservation Volunteers (TCV).
