Trafford’s Labour leader has welcomed Manchester Credit Union’s expansion inside the popular Stretford Mall.

Cllr Andrew Western, who recently visited the new branch, said he fully supported organisations that provide financial ‘support where it is most needed’.

Cllr Western, said he was ‘delighted’ the facility had opened in Stretford, adding: “Credit Unions provide a massive boost to neighbourhoods and provide much-needed support.

“Good luck and best wishes to the team for the future, I know you will be a success.”

Credit Unions function as an alternative to banks by operating on a non-profit basis.

They are member owned and offer better savings and loan rates including reduced fees.

Manchester Credit Union Chief Executive, Christine Moore, said: “Due to the pandemic opening had been delayed but we are now really looking forward to welcoming new and existing members into the branch.”

The Credit Union, which celebrates its 30th anniversary this year, also provides other financial services including a free payroll deduction facility to local employers.

Chairman Peter Mitchel said he was pleased to offer credit union services in Trafford – and thanked everyone involved for their support.

The new branch can be found at Unit 51 on the first floor in Stretford Mall.
