Innovative plans that underpin how Trafford’s leading Labour administration will successfully deliver public services while supporting residents and businesses have been approved.

The Corporate Plan is a refresh on the previous document, first published in 2018, and describes Labour’s strategic vision and priorities for the borough.

The authority will focus on three key areas that include, reducing health inequalities, supporting people out of poverty while addressing the climate crises.

The plan was agreed by members of the Full Council on Wednesday.

Cllr Mike Freeman, Executive Member for Covid-19 Recovery and Reform, said the document provides clarity and demonstrates how the council plans to overcome Covid-19 while, at the same time, seizing new opportunities.

“Three and half years ago this council had no plan and no direction of travel,” said Cllr Freeman.

“It had spent 14 years under Tory control of which the last six were spent slashing services – all in the name of austerity.

“Thank goodness for a Labour administration, which has not only steadied the ship, but provided clear direction in the form of the Corporate Plan as a means of measuring our performance and communicating clearly to residents our vision and priorities for Trafford.”

Cllr Freeman continued: “I want to stress that this is a live document and will continue to be work in progress while we explore different ways of measuring our performance and data.

“I think it is important to measure indicators that are absolutely within our control if we are to get a true picture of good performance and where improvement is required.

“The document really does underpin everything we do, so I am proud to be presenting this refreshed Corporate Plan for adoption by council.”

The plan has been developed with input from council staff and residents and stakeholders with the new vision being:

  • Trafford where all our residents communities and businesses prosper

The key outcomes include:

  • All our residents will have access to quality learning training and jobs
  • All our communities will be happy healthy and safe
  • All our businesses and town centres will be supported to recover and flourish for the benefit of everyone

The refreshed priorities are:

  • Reducing health inequalities
  • Supporting people out of poverty
  • Addressing the climate crisis
