Trafford Labour Trafford Labour supports residents in Altrincham, Sale, Stretford, Urmston, Partington and Old Trafford
A block of Sale Moor apartments, refurbished to create social rented homes, has been officially opened – and named after one of Trafford’s longest serving Labour councillors.
The three-story building is now called Brotherton Court, after Cllr Barry Brotherton, who has served as a councillor for over 50 years and held the position as the authority’s leader in 1986.
The site has had a complete overhaul and now benefits the community by offering three two-bed and six one-bed apartments.
The homes will be handed over to residents via the council’s Housing Options Service Trafford (HOST).
The council and housing association partner L&Q have completed work on the scheme to transform the empty and dilapidated building into new social rented homes.
Cllr Brotherton, who was invited to officially open the development, said: “This is a fabulous new social housing scheme, and I’m honoured it has been named after me.
“I am a huge supporter of social housing, and this development is a great example of what can be done to help more people get on the housing ladder.
“My personal thanks to everyone who has worked hard to make this development a reality.
“Trafford’s Labour-led administration will always champion schemes of this nature. The delivery of social rent homes is a key policy – and will always be at the top of our agenda.”
The new development also supports other Labour priorities including a thriving economy and homes for all, the best start for children and young people, and addressing the climate crisis.
Cllr Liz Patel, Executive Member for Economy and Regeneration, said: “The Labour-led administration is committed to delivering more affordable homes.
“This scheme is a fantastic example of how we can help local families and residents onto the housing ladder.
“I am delighted this development has been named after Cllr Brotherton – one of the borough’s longest serving councillors.”
